Meet Wally! This sweet boy came into GPMR after his owners surrendered him to their local shelter. They said they could not afford to keep him anymore. We were happy to take him into Rescue!

Wally came to us with a previously torn CCL ligament in one of his knees. There was a lot of muscle wasting so it seems it had been like that for at least a few months. We recently completed this TPLO surgery and so far he is doing well with his recovery. He also had an issue with his shoulders called osteochondritis dessicans (OCD). He had a piece of cartilage that had broken off from his shoulder and was causing him some pain. He had a scope procedure to remove that and he's healing up nicely!

Wally has a wonderful demeanor. He is good with dogs and cats, and we think he'd do well with kids too. He does like to occassionally chew things left on the floor so his new owners will need to be aware of that. He would do best in a home where someone is with him part of he day. He was timid in new situations when he first arrived to GPMR, and when he got really nervous he would sometimes will pee. This was mainly at the vet's office. However he has not peed the last several visits so we have made progress! He would probably be better for more of a homebody family versus a family who brings their dogs everywhere they go. He does enjoy his daily walks in the neighborhood.

Due to his orthopedic issues that we have addressed, Wally will need to be kept a lean weight to help slow the process of arthritis that has already begun in some of his joints. We currently have him on several arthritis supplements and when he gets older, he'll need to be on prescription medications for arthritis.

Wally is great with other dogs and cats too. For families with kids, we'd recommend kids age 7 and up.

Wally is being fostered in Guthrie, OK.
