Karma is a 10 month old mastiff rescued from an area shelter in deplorable condition. One of the shelter staff fell in love with her and helped insure she got into rescue as quickly as possible. Not only was she starving, but sometime in her short life, she was hit by a car and never treated. She will need surgery to fix her broken hip. We estimate her medical costs to be $1500 and GPMR is in need of donations to help fund her medical needs. This girl has a phenomenal personality! Even in a shelter environment in severe pain she managed to charm everyone she met by her sweet and calm demeanor. She has never complained, even though it is obvious her injuries must be extremely painful.

**Karma is on medical hold until she heals, but we are accepting donations at this time.

UPDATE 1/19/08: Karma had surgery on Thursday and is back in her foster home now. The surgeon unfortunately wasn't able to repair the fracture, they said it had been there for some time. So instead he did a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO), removing the broken parts to take away the pain that she's been having. She's such a trooper!! She was very quiet yesterday but has perked up a bit today. Her bill was not the estimated $2000, but will end up being around $1300 total. Donations are still desperately needed to pay for her surgery.

1/27/08: Karma went to the vet this week for a cough, but she is doing much better now. She is starting to use her leg some now, which the vet was very happy to see! She's gained 5 pounds already and isn't looking quite so bony now. Karma just loves everyone, she doesn't know what a stranger is!

2/5/08: Karma started physical therapy yesterday, she had a session on the underwater treadmill! She was very unsure of things at first but true to form she handled it like a pro. She'll be going twice a week for 5 weeks. She is definitely feeling better and we have to keep her from over-exterting herself. Also she's up to 89 pounds now! Yay Karma!

2/18/08: Karma is now in her third week of physical therapy. She is able to go on the underwater treadmill for about 15 minutes now! She had a follow-up appointment from her surgery recently and the orthopedic surgeon is very pleased with her progress. She is 93 pounds now, and you can really see her starting to fill out - she's a beautiful girl!

3/3/08: Good news - Karma has a found a home! Her foster parents have decided to adopt her. She has come so far since that first day and still has a way to go, but she's doing great. Since Karma is only 10 months and still has some growing to do, we're not sure if she'll be able to hold her full adult weight with the surgery she had, and may end up needing to get a total hip replacement at some point in the future. We'll just have to wait and see how she manages. She has a very strong spirit and we know she can face whatever lies ahead for her recovery.

We're so glad to be able to keep her in the immediate rescue family as she's become well known and it will be great to be able to bring her to Rescue events in the future. She will be the Mastiff Mascot for GPMR!

A sincere thanks to everyone who pulled for Karma, and especially for those who donated to her medical care. We would not have been able to save this precious girl without your support! She finishes physical therapy this week, and today weighed 98 pounds!!
