Meet Iceman! This big hunk of love was surrendered by his owner from Texas. They said they didn't have time for him, but we suspect they could not afford his medical expenses anymore. Iceman is the biggest lover, and best cuddler you will ever meet. He is a very submissive, and a shy boy with new people, so don’t let his BIG size fool you. Iceman gets along great with other animals, including CATS! Iceman has already had surgeries on both knees to repair ligament damange. We didn't get any vet records with Iceman so we have no idea when these were done or where. However he does still limp on one of his back legs and also on a front leg. We had him evaluated by our Orthopedic Specialist, who took Xrays and we learned that while Iceman's hips look good, he has arthritis in both knees as well as both elbows. We have started him on joint supplements and prescription anti-inflammatory medication (Carprofen). Because Iceman has arthritis in all 4 legs, it's unlikely he will have a normal Mastiff lifespan because at some point it will become very painful for him. Due to this, we are waiving Iceman's adoption fee to a family who will be willing to provide for his current monthly medications and future medical expenses. Unfortunately there isn't any surgery that can help him so he will need to stay on medications for life which can get costly for a dog his size. Because of his arthritis, Iceman would do best in a home with older kids (8 and up) as we don't want little ones accidentally falling on and potentially hurting him. He would need a home without many stairs (a couple of steps that go outside would likely be fine). For now, Iceman is very well taken care of and LOVES chow time. He enjoys getting baths and and blow dried, what can we say, this big lug LOVES to be pampered. He will have short bursts of playtime with the other dogs in his foster home, so he's got some pep in his step! He loves being with people most of all, we'd love a family who is home part of the day, but as long as he has a canine companion he would be fine during work hours.
