This annual event is hosted by our friends with Boxer Rescue of Oklahoma. This fun-filled family fundraiser, now in its fifth year, will feature a 1 mile walk through the beautiful Washington Irving Park in Bixby. There will be plenty of water, food, and fun for pets and their human companions. All breeds are welcome! Our day begins with registration at 9:00am at the parking lot for registration of walkers, then at 10:00am the Bark Walk participants will walk along the trail and circle back to the area where we will host a Pet Fest from 10:30am to 3:00pm. This is the fifth year of the Bark Walk, we are anticipating attendance of over 3,000 visitors! We will have adoptions, $20 microchipping, pet contests, raffles, training tips and more! Dallas’ most historic football field will transform into a super-sized dog park for canines of all sizes to romp and run unleashed! Enjoy pooch-pleasers including a pet/owner look-alike contest, giveaways, exhibits, pooch portraits and more. (Please note: A nominal fee applies for pooch portraits.) Talk to trainers, veterinarians and pet product vendors, and learn the latest tips and trends in the tail-wagging world. Attendees are invited to bring their own pets to enjoy a day in the park filled with music, great food and a pet friendly atmosphere, but most importantly to adopt homeless pets from one of over twenty area rescue groups which will be featured at the event. In addition to area rescue groups, attendees can visit with local pet related businesses including vets, trainers, retailers, groomers and doggie day care which will be on hand to talk with pet owners about how they can be of service. Paws in the Park is the largest annual fundraiser for Helping Hands Humane Society. HHHS admits over 8,000 animals a year. The cost to compassionately care for and provide world-class medical care for this number of animals can be staggering but unavoidable. Paws in the Park helps to raise money to support the animals that enter our doors. HHHS is proud to provide sanctuary for the lost, abandoned and unwanted animals of the NE Kansas community. Registration to participate in Paws in the Park is $30 which includes an event t-shirt, VIP goodie bag, and one souvenir dog bandana. All animals participating in the one-mile fun walk or contests must be registered and be wearing the Paws in the Park bandana. Additional pets can be registered for participation with a $10 donation. This donation will allow your additional pets to receive the participatory bandana. An additional t-shirt can be acquired for a $15 donation. You may also purchase a general admission entry for $10. General admission includes one dog bandana but does not include a t-shirt or goodie bag. Children 16 years old and younger are free. We are offering a discount for military, students, and seniors. Paws in the Park is the must-attend event for any animal lover. The event begins with a one-mile mutt strut through Gage Park. Following the walk, vendors are open for shopping and browsing along with other activities. Throughout the morning, pet contests will be conducted and, for a minimal donation, pancakes and sausage will be served by Perkin's Family Restaurant and Bakery. You have the opportunity to use the internet to help raise money for Paws in the Park. Consider building a fundraising web page on your own or with a team to increase the amount of donations raised for Paws in the Park. The more money you raise, the more prizes you can get! Yukon Czech Festival officially kicks off Saturday at 8 a.m. Thousands line Main Street from Garth Brooks Boulevard to 3rd Street for one of Oklahoma’s largest parades beginning at 10 a.m. Following the parade, festivities shift to the Czech Building at 5th and Cedar with polka bands and traditional folk dance performances throughout the day. Sample traditional Czech foods including kolaches and sausages prepared by the Oklahoma Czechs, Inc. Members and volunteers bake more than 2,500 dozen kolaches which sell out every year. Shop dozens of arts and crafts booths and festival food vendors. Then join us at 4 p.m. for the coronation of the 2015 Oklahoma Czech Royalty including a Queen, Junior Queen, Prince and Princess. The festival concludes with the Royalty Coronation Ball at the historical Yukon Czech Hall at 205 N. Czech Hall Road. Everyone is welcome to come dance to the music of the Masopust and Bohemian Knights bands. The mission of the Oklahoma Czechs, Inc. is to preserve the precious traditions of the Czech people.
