Current Scheduled Events: A Dog Walk in the Park 2010 Saturday September 25th, 2010 9:00 AM until 03:00 PM Location: Duffner Park Map: Corner of Hefner & May The Village Ok See all of the animals attending this event. It's Dog Walk time again! This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2010, 9a - 3p at Duffner Park (corner of Hefner and May Avenue). In addition to our annual walk we are also hosting "Oklahoma's Ugliest Dog" contest. People wishing to enter the contest please e-mail us with your information and a picture of your pooch. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and will receive $500 and the title Oklaho...ma's Ugliest Dog! Bella has made it very easy to register and walk in this year's event. Please visit www.firstgiving.com/thebellafoundation to register you and your pooch and also create your individual fund raising page. Once you have created you page e-mail it to your friends, family, and co-workers to begin gathering sponsors. A prize will be awarded to the highest fundraiser. Come join us for fun and fund raising! There will be lots of dogs up for adoption, food and beverages, contests, and vaccinations & micro-chipping offered by Neel Veterinary Hospital. Visit our webpage in the coming weeks to get more details on the dog walk and how you can be a part of saving the lives of animals in OKC! The more money we raise the more we can help. GPMR will set up a tent and will need several volunteers for this and would love a few fosters to make an appearance as well! Western Days Festival Saturday September 25th, 2010 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM Location: Old Town Lewisville South Mill Street Find the cowboy in you at Lewisville's annual Western Days festival in Old Town Lewisville. Bring your family to this western event, designed to showcase Lewisville's rich history. Festival stages will feature live country music and entertainment while festival-goers partake in the unique arts and crafts vendors, gunfight re-enactments, trick ropers, Tailwaggers Ranch, antique car show, national tamale-eating championship, and longhorn cattle drive. Family fun doesn't stop there with children's activities including a petting zoo, playland area, facepainters, sketch artists, TootallTex, and more. Great Plains Mastiff Rescue has become a part of this monthly experience. It is truly a great time. We would love some of the Mastiffs in rescue to come out, make new friends, check out the local artists and businesses and just hang out and enjoy. Volunteering for this one is a great time. Heartland Weimaraner Rescue is hosting a 5K run and has invited us to be a part of the festivities. We will have a booth to promote the GPMR. Our booth is free and we need to bring a $20 raffle item. It would be great to have at least 3 volunteers and a few fosters participate in this event. This is a shameless plug for the 5k. Please pass this along to everyone you know who likes to run charity 5k's, it's going to be a lot of fun. The Ghost Runner's 5k and Rally to Rescue event will be from noon to 6pm on Sunday October 24th, 2010, race start will be 2pm. We will be running at Stars and Stripes Park, along the shore of Lake Hefner in ...Oklahoma City. This is the first every USA Track and Field sanctioned event to be run with dogs in the state of Oklahoma! Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female runners with and without dog running partners. Purina Rally to Rescue will be providing the awards for the runners with dogs and Red Coyote Running and Fitness will be providing gift certificates to the top runners without dogs. We are thrilled to be partners with Red Coyote. Festivities will kick off at 10:00 AM with the first howl of the day. The four-footed attendees will gather together to throw their noses in the air and howl, howl, howl! One mile walk-a-tron 10:00am. Pet Fest 10:30 - 2:00. This fun-filled family fundraiser, now in its second year, will feature a 1 mile walk through the beautiful Haikey Creek Park in Broken Arrow. There will be plenty of water, food, and fun for pets and their human companions. All breeds are welcome! Our day begins with registration at 9:00am at the Haikey Creek parking lot for registration of walkers, then at 10:00am the Bark Walk participants will walk along the trail and circle back to the area where we will host a Pet Fest from 10:30am to 2:00pm. This is the second year of the Bark Walk, we are anticipating attendance of at least 500 visitors! They will have adoptions, $20 microchipping, pet contests, raffles, training tips and more! On May 21st, 2011, the Great Rescue Roundup (GRR) will be an all breed rescue event held at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Groups from over 20+ rescue breeds will have booths set up to show off their wonderful, adoptable canines and can discuss their dogs in detail with potential adopters. Each of these groups are nonprofit organizations run 100% by volunteers and 100% on donations. We will also have various vendor booths set up for these companies to offer their merchandise for sale. Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, 92.9 BOB FM and 106.9 KHITS along with dozens of animal welfare groups for the Woofstock 2011 – The Art of Rescue. This year’s event will take place Saturday, September 10 from 12 to 4 pm at Riverwalk Crossing in Jenks. Presented by Marina Animal Clinic, Woofstock will take place alongside the Second Saturday Art Show, providing even more for participants to see and do. Attendees are invited to bring their own pets to enjoy a day filled with live music, art and a pet friendly atmosphere, but most importantly to adopt homeless pets from one of the area rescue groups featured at the event. In addition to area rescue groups, attendees can visit with local pet related businesses including vets, trainers, retailers, groomers and doggie day care which will be on hand to talk with pet owners about how they can be of service. Pet owners can also take advantage of $25 micro chipping from OAA, $20 animal communication sessions with Pam Case and more. This event will help achieve the Rally to Rescue® goal of securing loving, forever homes to 400,000 animals across the country, since the program’s inception, by the end of 2010. During the past four years, Rally to Rescue® and its Ambassadors have successfully found homes for more than 312,000 homeless animals. Smaller pet rescue organizations help place nearly half a million dogs and cats in homes each year, and represent nearly 45 percent of all pet adoption agencies. A designated area will be set up for booths and activities prior to and after the run, including pet/owner costume contests, raffles, pet education and a silent auction. Rub-A-Dub Race for Rescues is an annual event to bring awareness to local rescues, specifically pure breed rescues, and to help raise money for those rescues in attendance. In the past this event has been called “Rescue Day and Dog Wash”. This year we have change the name, location of event and even changed some of the activities. Rub-A-Dub Races for rescues will be held on Saturday, May 25th, 2013, from 10am to 4pm. The event will be held at Stars & Stripes Park, on Lake Hefner, Oklahoma City, OK. Please Note – this is Memorial Day Weekend! We will still continue to have dog washes, but we are also going to have a sanctioned 5K race for 2 legged and 4 legged friends, a one mile fun run/walk, a children’s bicycle parade, a rubber ducky drop for a chance to win $500 prize and much, much more! Join GPMR as they participate in the 2nd Annual NWA Dogwalk at Bentonville Bark Park on June 8th! Walk starts at 10:00 but plan to come early! Bring the kids, the dog/s and the whole family to show your support for our local animal shelters. The proceeds from this event will be divided evenly among our 5 local animal shelters: Centerton Animal Shelter, Lone Pine Ranch Animal Shelter, Bella Vista Animal Shelter, Rogers Animal Shelter and the Humane Society for Animals in Rogers. Help spread the word about the NWA Dog Walk and we can make a huge difference in many animals lives! Our local pet professionals and vendors will be setting up tents at the event to pass out samples and educational information and sale goods. This is a great way to show your support for so many animals that need our help. At the same time, become educated on what our area has to offer you as a pet owner. The walk will be on the North trails adjacent to the Bark Park and is just under 3 miles. This will be like no other dog walk you have taken with your dog before! Please make sure to register before May 15th in order to receive a NWA Dog Walk t-shirt! Rules for the walk: Each participant will be allowed to walk no more than two dogs at a time. Everyone is responsible for the clean up and disposal of their dog's waste. We would like to continue this event year after year and to do so we need to keep the park and trails clean. Strollers, Wagons, Wheelchairs and Electric Scooters (for the handicapped) are allowed, however, anything else with wheels is prohibited. The use of FLEXI Leads will not be allowed at the event due to safety reasons. Please bring a regular leash for your dog that is no longer than 6 feet.
